JAY Z - Reasonable Doubt (reissue) (cassette)

JAY Z
Reasonable Doubt (reissue)

Format: cassette
Genre: Hip Hop/R&B

Jay-Z's game-changing 1996 debut arrives on cassette for a new generation and is a great reminder of where it all began for the US hip-hop mogul. The record reflects the life and times of a then 26-year-old former drug dealer who was processing a decade on the streets with the sort of lyrical precision, wit and honesty that has rarely been matched. It was recorded on the fledgling Roc-A-Fella label before the world was paying attention, and rather than being full of polished conscious cool, it rocks with youthful bravado; Jay's voice glides over soulful samples while his writing operates on multiple levels at once. There is a bleakness beneath the hooks and catchy grooves - tracks like 'D'Evils' confront the psychological toll of that life with startling honesty. The influence of this one has only really grown with time, and rightly so.
