FKJ - Tyber (gatefold clear vinyl LP in embossed sleeve)

FKJ
Tyber

Format: gatefold clear vinyl LP in embossed sleeve
Genre: Broken Beat/Nu Jazz

This album's sitting on our Broken Beat pages but would be just as at home filed under 'soul/r&b' or 'pop'. FJK, also known as French Kiwi Juice, has released five previous albums since making his debut in 2017, so fans should already have a pretty good idea what to expect. But for the uninitiated, gentle, lilting grooves are the general order of the day here, with Tyber staying in midtempo territory pretty much for the duration, as muted, lolloping beats underpin fragile piano lines, meandering organs and (often harmonised) vocals from both FKJ himself and a variety of guests - stand up Lucy Park, Baby Rose, Bas, Eryn Allen Kane and Labrinth. If it's dancefloor fare you're after, you're out of luck: this is an album built for sofas and headphones, but it's an enjoyable ride for sure, with the stripped-back neo-soul of 'I Want U' the standout to these ears.
