Like some of dance music's most pioneering and memorable records, Josh Wink's 1995 classic 'Higher State of Consciousness' is devilishly simple and - as the man himself recently made clear - pretty much impossible to recreate. Similar to Phuture's foundational 'Acid Tracks', it's a simple but devastating exercise in TB-303 abuse, where wild and insatiably funky acid lines tweak and twist above a punchy breakbeat and metronomic electronic stabs. Here it gets the Strictly Rhythm reissue treatment, pressed loud for maximum dancefloor pleasure, with the essential and familiar 'Tweekin' Acid Funk' version (that's the version that became a worldwide smash) paired with a later, headnod-friendly downtempo mix that appears to have been made for Ibiza chill-out sessions (think Cafe Del Mar, Cafe Mambo etc).
