Tennessee singer Miley Cyrus was still moving out of her Disney phase when 'Party In The U.S.A.' arrived, though the song very quickly grew beyond the sort of polished teen-pop vehicle it was probably designed to be. Built around rubbery synth bass and bright, radio-sized hooks, the track captures that strange mixture of nerves and excitement that comes with landing somewhere completely new and trying desperately to look unfazed. The chorus is ridiculous in the best possible way too, all pure release and singalong instinct. There's probably no other late-2000s pop song that can still instantly turn an entire room feral the second those opening chords land.
