Wornell JONES - Must Have Been Love (7")
Wornell JONES
Must Have Been Love
Format: 7"
Genre: Soul
DC songwriter Wornell Jones enters stage left with a new 7" pairing drawn from his lone Paradise Records album, first out in 1979. London label Dynamite Cuts secures its first-time format issue; 'Must Have Been Love' drifts on late-70s soul polish, supple bass, soft keys and Jones's own heated-up lyricism: "my temperature is rising, right up to the top..." (Jones knew his music was growing in popularity, but that rising heat risks a burn). 'Only Love Can Make It Better' garlands the B alongside Maxayn Lewis, her phrasing adding lift to a slower, deeper cut from the same sessions. Jones, later a writer for The Pointer Sisters and Earth, Wind & Fire, handles much of the instrumentation himself, supported by players including Ray Gomez, Jai Winding and Jim Horn.
