MY PHILOSOPHY
Episode 6
Format: hand-numbered 7" limited to 100 copies repress
Genre: Hip Hop/R&B
Two recognisable pillars of late 90s hip-hop come back a'swinging through sage swag suppliers Vibetown: 'You Know My Steez' is the 1998 Gang Starr classic, taken from Moment of Truth and built about DJ Premier's rugged, truncheoning drums and a chopped jazz sample; Guru's calm authority and Premo's stripped-down funk excerpts New York rap at its best-assured. Then 'Summertime '98 (Soul Power Remix)' is a reworked version of DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince's evergreen hit 'Summertime', upshot with heavier drums and a DJ-friendlier structure.
