TV Off
Format: 7"
Genre: Hip Hop/R&B
Stateside rap superstar Kendrick Lamar's GNX deep cut 'TV Off' is a late document of the Olympian rapper's firm stance against passive conformity and square-eyedness. Being Kendrick's last collaboration with ratchet mastermind DJ Mustard since 'Not Like Us', it dignified their working relationship after their first had to stoop to the low of a Drake diss. Now DJ Marrrtin reups the beat entirely, lifting the breakbeat from Roberto Roena's Latin classic 'Que Se Sepa' and siting it in a brasher, breaks-heavier context. Roena's original is of course included on the B for comparison. Neat trick!
