New Rochelle crew Brand Nubian arrived at the start of the 90s sounding completely certain of themselves, which helped One For All cut through a rap landscape already crowded with brilliant records. Grand Puba, Sadat X and Lord Jamar approached conscious rap without the po-faced heaviness that often drags these things down, folding Five-Percent teachings and political commentary into warm, deeply musical boom bap. 'Feels So Good' still glides beautifully on jazz-funk basslines and easy swing, while 'Slow Down' flips its Hall & Oates sample into something unexpectedly hypnotic. Elsewhere, 'Wake Up' lands with far more bite, and 'Concerto In X Minor' remains one of the album's smartest productions, all crisp drums and piano loops that seem to snap perfectly into place the longer they run.
