Originally released in 1976, it marked a shift towards more mellow, groove-based songwritinga and remains one of the most influential entries in Ayers' vast discography. He centres the vibraphone across ten tracks, using it as both melodic guide and percussive spirit. 'Hey, Uh-What You Say Come On' sets out the blueprint with radiant optimism, followed by the smoky bounce of 'The Golden Rod' and 'Keep On Walking'. 'You And Me My Love' and 'The Third Eye' stretch into dreamier territory, while 'It Ain't Your Sign (It's Your Mind)' and 'People And The World' inject a sharper social commentary. 'Everybody Loves The Sunshine' itself is a peak momentihazy, minimal, instantly transportive. Then comes the more eccentric double close of 'Tongue Power' and 'Lonesome Cowboy', where Ayers' soulful surrealism glows brightest.

Tracklist

Side 1
1. "Hey, Uh-What You Say Come On"
2. "The Golden Rod"
3. "Keep On Walking"
4. "You & Me My Love"
5. "The Third Eye"

Side 2
1. "It Ain't Your Sign (It's Your Mind)"
2. "People & The World"
3. "Everybody Loves The Sunshine"
4. "Tongue Power"
5. "Lonesome Cowboy"

DJ NOTOYA / VARIOUS
Tokyo Glow (remastered)

Format: gatefold 2xLP with obi-strip
Genre: Funk

The recent Tokyo Dreaming compilation on Wewantsounds was a huge success so the label does the right thing and follows it up with another collection of sounds from the Far East. This one again looks into the fascinatingly niche city pop sound with expert digger DJ Notoya at the wheels. He delves into the Nippon Columbia catalogue and turns out all manner of breezy and laidback gems from Hiroshi Sato, Hitomi "Penny" Tohyama, Midori Hara and more. Spanning the years 1974 to 1988, this compilation is a treasure trove of forgotten classics and hidden gems, a sonic time capsule that transports listeners back to the neon-lit streets and vibrant nightlife of 1980s Japan. Buzz's 'Garasumado' kicks things off with an infectious groove and funky guitar riffs that could rival any Western funk classic. Mami Ayukawa's 'Sabita Gambler' adds a touch of soulful sophistication, her smooth vocals gliding over lush instrumentation. Keiko Toda's 'Fade In' is a city pop gem, its dreamy melodies and catchy hooks evoking a sense of carefree optimism and urban cool. Elsewhere, Johnny Yoshinaga's soulful ballad 'The Rain' provides a moment of introspection, while Kumiko Sawada's disco-infused 'Your Love's Away' will get you moving and grooving. The compilation closes with the feelgood sounds of Masatoshi Kanno's 'Day By Day', a perfect encapsulation of the city pop aesthetic.

Tracklist

Side 1
1.BUZZ - "Garasumado"
2.Mami Ayukawa - "Sabita Gambler"
3.Johnny Yoshinaga - "The Rain"
4.Keiko Toda - "Fade In"
5.Koji Kobayashi - "Bokura No Date"

Side 2
1.Yuko Imai - "Hotel Twilight 4:49"
2.Kumiko Sawada - "Your Love's Away"
3.Masatoshi Kanno - "Day By Day"
4.Yuji Mitsuya - "After Five At Caf-Bar"
5.Fujimaru Band - "Paper Machine"
